Investigation Continues: Spirit of Bermuda & Resolute Collision

It now appears that two persons, believed to be an 18 year old Pembroke woman and a 25 year old Pembroke man, sustained non-life threatening injuries when the sailing vessel ‘Spirit of Bermuda’ and the Government ferry ‘Resolute’ collided in waters near Dockyard Friday night.

In addition to both vessels being damaged, apparently three motorcycles on the ferry at the time were also damaged.

Witness Appeal: Incident at Warwick Lanes

The Bermuda Police Service is aware of a social media message circulating regarding an incident that occurred at Warwick Lanes bowling alley Thursday evening (September 7th) involving an adult male and a child.

A report was made to police and a 29 year old man has been arrested in connection with the matter.

The circumstances of the incident are currently under investigation and any witnesses or persons with additional information are encouraged to contact police on 295-0011.

Traffic Advisory for Convening of Parliament Ceremony Friday

The Bermuda Police Service would like to remind the motoring public that the Corporation of Hamilton has issued a traffic notice authorizing sections of roads to be closed temporarily and traffic diversions in the City of Hamilton for the Convening of Parliament ceremony from 10am Friday, September 8th until the event has concluded.

Sudden Death of Visitor

Around 11am today (Wednesday, August 23rd) police and first responders were dispatched to a report of an unresponsive man floating in the water near Dockyard.

The man, believed to be an 80 year old cruise ship visitor, was apparently snorkelling with a tour group at the time.

The senior citizen was retrieved from the water, given CPR and rushed via ambulance to King Edward VII Memorial Hospital where sadly, he was later pronounced dead.

Sudden Death of Sean Tavares

The Bermuda Police Service can now confirm the death of 51 year old Sean Tavares and extends sincere condolences to his family and friends.

Mr. Tavares was found in an unresponsive state at the American International Building in Pembroke around 7:30am Friday, August 18th and transported to King Edward VII Memorial Hospital via ambulance where he was later pronounced dead.

As previously stated foul play is not suspected. However, an autopsy is anticipated.

Witness Appeal: Murder of Jahkoby Smith

Around 7:15pm on Saturday 29th July, Jahkoby Smith was fatally stabbed after he was involved in an altercation which took place at the West End Sailboat Club, Sandys, during a wake being held for the late Jachari Francis.

Police continue to appeal for witnesses to this incident. Anyone who may have information, particularly anyone who was at the West End Sailboat Club or in the general vicinity around the time of the incident or anyone knowing the movements of Jahkoby Smith prior to this incident, is urged to contact Detective Sergeant Dean Martin of the Serious Crime Unit on 247-1739 or the confidential Crime Stoppers hotline on 800-8477.

Proactive Policing Results in Arrests for Firearm, Ammunition & Drug Offences

Police officers conducting ongoing enquiries regarding a specific investigation had cause to stop a car in the St. Mary’s Road, Warwick area Tuesday evening (August 15th).

A firearm and a quantity of ammunition were seized. Two men in the vehicle were subsequently arrested in connection with the matter. One of the men was also arrested on suspicion of possessing a controlled drug.

Both men remain in police custody at this time pending further enquiries.

Witness Appeal After Two Injured in Dockyard Incident

Around 3:20am today, Tuesday August 15th, police and first responders attended an incident in Dockyard near King’s Wharf.

Circumstances remain unclear at this time. However, initial information suggests that two cruise ship workers were involved in a scuffle with up to four locals.

Apparently two of the individuals involved (one local and one crew member) sustained superficial injuries before both crew members were able to escape to the safety of their cruise ship.

Omari Symonds Named As 9th Road Fatality for 2017

The Bermuda Police Service can now confirm the death of 22-year-old Omari Symonds, who tragically lost his life after being involved in a two vehicle collision, which took place on Middle Road, Devonshire near the junction with Chaingate Hill. Sadly, this marks the 9th road traffic fatality for 2017.

Initial reports suggest that Mr. Symonds was travelling in an easterly direction on his motorcycle, when he collided with a private motorcar headed in the opposite direction.

Car Driver Injured July 7th Now Recovering on a General Ward

At last check this morning (July 19th) the 36 year old female car driver injured in a Harrington Sound Road, Hamilton parish car crash around 5:45pm Friday, July 7th had been transferred from the hospital’s Intensive Care Unit to a general ward in stable condition.

Inquiries continue and any witnesses that have not already come forward are encouraged to contact the main police telephone number 295-0011.
