Update Fatal RTC: Victim Identified - The Bermuda Police Service can now confirm the death of 18 year old Vershon Simmons of Pembroke. Around 9:30pm Saturday, March 5th 2011 Mr. Simmons was riding a motorcycle which was involved in a collision with a car on Harbour Road in Paget near the junction with Cobbs Hill Road. He was seriously injured and rushed to hospital via ambulance; however he later succumbed to his injuries. The Bermuda Police Service extends condolences to the family and friends of Mr. Simmons.

February 27 - Weekend Report

Arrest for Outstanding Warrants - Around 10:45pm on Friday, Police were on patrol along Elliot Street in Pembroke when they encountered a 25 year old Pembroke man. Further inquiries revealed that the individual had six outstanding warrants. As a result he was arrested and detained.

Speed Checks

On Saturday Police conducted speed checks along Crow Lane in Pembroke and on Friday officers conducted speed checks along South Road in Paget.

February 20 - Weekend Report

Injury RTC - Around 7:05pm on Saturday, Police attended a reported road traffic collision resulting in injury at the junction of Middle Road and Hermitage Road in Devonshire involving a car and a motorcycle. It appears that both vehicles were traveling along Middle Road when they collided. The rider of the motorcycle, a 43 year old Paget man, sustained a head injury. He was taken to King Edward VII Memorial Hospital via ambulance for treatment and later released. The driver of the car, a 34 year old Devonshire woman, was not injured. Both vehicles received relatively minor damage.

Driving Whilst Impaired - At 12:25am on Sunday, Police were on mobile patrol on North Shore Road in Devonshire when they observed a motorcycle traveling west swerving in an erratic manner. The man was eventually stopped and officers observed the rider’s eyes to be glazed. He also appeared unsteady on his feet and his breath smelled of alcohol. As a result he was arrested on suspicion of driving whilst impaired and taken to Hamilton Police Station where he was breath tested. The suspect failed the breath test and was subsequently detained.

Disturbance - Around 9:10pm on Saturday, Police responded to a reported disturbance at BAA on Woodlands Road in Pembroke. On arrival officers found there was no disturbance taking place. However, as a result of further inquiries at the scene, four men in their early 20s were detained. Of the four men initially detained, two were subsequently released without charge. The remaining individuals, a 20 year old St. George’s man and a 22 year old Warwick man, were arrested for using offensive words and outstanding warrants respectively.

Burglary - Around 7pm on Friday, Police received a report of a burglary at a Harbour Road, Paget residence. It appears that sometime between 2:50pm and 6:45pm that day, an unknown culprit gained entry into the home while it was unoccupied; however apparently nothing was taken. Inquiries into this incident are underway.

Around 6:25pm on Friday, Police received a report of a burglary at a Lighthouse Lane, Southampton residence. It appears that sometime between 2:45pm and 6:10pm that day, an unknown culprit gained entry into the home while it was unoccupied. The culprit stole a quantity of jewelry. Inquiries into this incident are underway.

Injury RTC - Around 1:20am on Sunday, Police and first responders attended a reported single vehicle road traffic collision resulting in injury on Marsh Folly Road in Pembroke near the junction with Dutton Avenue. It appears that a motorcycle was traveling along Marsh Folly Road when the rider, a 26 year old woman, lost control. She was injured and taken to King Edward VII Memorial Hospital via ambulance for treatment. The motorcycle received relatively minor damage. Inquiries into this incident are underway. Police are appealing for any witnesses to this collision to contact PC Lorna Wright on 295-0011.

December 12 - Weekend Report

Boat Fire - Around 11am on Saturday, Police including Police vessel Rescue 1 with officers from the Marine Unit as well as Bermuda Fire & Rescue Service personnel responded to a report of a boat on fire in Mullet Bay, St. George’s. The fire was extinguished by firefighters at the scene. The boat was extensively damaged; however no one was injured. There does not appear to be any suspicious circumstances.

December 5 - Weekend Report

Fire - Around 12:30pm on Sunday, Police and Bermuda Fire & Rescue Service personnel attended a fire at a Middle Town Drive, Pembroke residence. The fire was extinguished by firefighters at the scene. There does not appear to be any suspicious circumstances; however a 42 year old Pembroke woman and a 45 year old Pembroke man were taken to King Edward VII Memorial Hospital via ambulance for treatment of smoke inhalation. Inquiries into this incident are underway.

Witness Appeal: Confirmed Firearm Incident in Pembroke - Police are continuing to appeal for witnesses to the confirmed firearm incident that occurred around 5:30am on Saturday in the St. Monica’s Road, Pembroke area. At last check the two victims, a 44 year old man and a 40 year old man, remain in the Intensive Care Unit at King Edward VII Memorial Hospital.
