Renewed Advisory: Safety Tips While Out Socialising

In light of the voice note circulating through social media and WhatsApp recently that suggests women have had foreign substances unknowingly placed into their beverages at liquor licensed establishments, the Bermuda Police Service would like to remind members of the public of the following safety tips to consider while out socialising.

Ideally, if going out to socialise, go with a friend or group of friends – not alone.

If out socialising in a group, stay together. Look after your friends and don’t go off on your own.

Reports of Women’s Drinks ‘Spiked’ at Liquor Licensed Premises

Police are aware of a voice note circulating through social media and WhatsApp that suggests that there are cases of women who have had foreign substances unknowingly placed into their beverages at liquor licensed establishments.

It should be noted that to date there have been no reports of this nature recently submitted to the police.

Two Teen Boys Arrested in Connection With Scooters Stolen from TCD

Detectives are currently conducting inquiries regarding three 50cc scooters recently reported stolen from the Transport Control Department (TCD) on North Street in the City of Hamilton.

The three scooters were secured in a shipping container on the premises and used for Project Ride.

It appears that all three were removed sometime between 6:30pm Thursday, April 5th and 9am Saturday, April 7th.

Reported Single Vehicle Collision in Southampton

At 8am this morning (Thursday) police responded to a report of a single vehicle road traffic collision that took place in the area of South Road and Horseshoe Road in Southampton. Details are still emerging at this point but it appears that the driver of a van lost control of his vehicle resulting in the van overturning. Traffic was then diverted away from the area whilst the scene was being processed.

The 47 year old driver of the vehicle was taken to the hospital for injuries that do not appear to be life-threatening.

Disturbance on Reid Street

Meanwhile, police responded to a report of a disturbance outside of the PHC Club on Reid Street at a few minutes before 11pm on Sunday. Upon police arrival to the scene there was no active disturbance and individuals were in the process of leaving. This resulted in officers maintaining a highly visible presence at the scene, in the surrounding area and throughout the city.

BPS Response to Allegations Regarding Former Attorney General

The below is in response to allegations made in the House of Assembly that Trevor Moniz, while in his capacity as Attorney General, committed offences under the Proceeds of Crime Act. The official response from the Bermuda Police Service is as follows:

Assistant Commissioner of Police Antoine Daniels – “The Bermuda Police Service (BPS) is aware of the statements that have been made about this case. We are in the process of recording the full facts and consulting with the Director of Public Prosecutions to determine whether the circumstances may amount to any specific criminal offences.”

Appeal for Photos or Video Footage of Victoria Street Traffic Matter

The Bermuda Police Service is currently looking into a traffic matter involving a male motorcyclist and a Government vehicle, driven by Minister of National Security the Hon. Wayne Caines, which occurred along Victoria Street in the City of Hamilton on Monday, March 26th.

We will look at the evidence, with input from the Department of Public Prosecutions, to determine whether any offences are disclosed.

Injured Rider Recovering on a General Ward After Motorcycle Crash

At last check this morning (March 26th) the 23 year old Devonshire man injured in a reported single vehicle motorcycle crash at the junction of North Shore Road and Barkers Hill in Devonshire around 1:45am Sunday, March 25th was recovering in stable condition on a general ward after initially being admitted to the hospital’s Intensive Care Unit.

Inquiries continue and any witnesses to this crash are still asked to contact Constable Kyle Outerbridge on the main police telephone number 295-0011.

Reported Burglaries at Three Primary Schools

Detectives are currently conducting inquiries into reported burglaries at Victor Scott Primary School, Paget Primary School and West Pembroke Primary School.

Initial information suggests that the burglaries occurred sometime between Wednesday night (March 21st) and early Thursday morning (March 22nd).

At this time it is unclear what, if anything was taken from the three schools.
