Missing Juvenile Located - The Bermuda Police Service would like to thank the public for their assistance in locating 15 year old Daeshon Warner. The teenager was located at 1:45pm today safe and well.
Burglary Advisory
The Bermuda Police Service would like to advise the public to remain vigilant regarding burglaries. Over the past week there were a number of burglaries reported throughout three parishes; Sandys, Warwick and Pembroke. Overall, a quantity of electronics, jewelry and cash was taken.
Assault - Around 2am on Wednesday October 12th, police responded to a report of an assault on the corner of Court Street and Elliot Street in Pembroke. On arrival, police found a 40 year old Devonshire man who had apparently been assaulted and sustained stab wounds and injuries to his body. He was taken to King Edward VII Memorial Hospital via ambulance for treatment. His injuries are not believed to be life threatening. A 26 year old Pembroke man was arrested in connection with this incident. An investigation into this incident is underway.
Collision in Southampton - Around 6:30pm on Sunday October 9th, police attended a reported traffic collision on Riviera Road in Southampton parish between a truck and a motorcycle. It appears that both vehicles were travelling along Riviera Road in opposite directions when the vehicles collided. The rider of the motorcycle, a 29 year old Southampton man was conveyed to KEMH for treatment. His injuries are not considered to be life-threatening. The driver of the truck, a 24 year old Southampton man was uninjured. Both vehicles were damaged. Inquiries into this incident are underway.
Advisory: Scam E-mail - Once again the Bermuda Police Service would like to remind members of the public to remain vigilant regarding phishing e-mails and other scams that attempt to obtain personal information or other sensitive data.
Currently an e-mail is circulating, allegedly from the “London 2012 Olympic Organizing Committee." The e-mail claims that the recipient’s e-mail address was attached to a winning lottery ticket, resulting in a prize of £2 million. The e-mail states that in order to claim the money the recipient must disclose their personal information such as their name, occupation, home and e-mail addresses, telephone number and passport number.
Collision in Devonshire - Around 11:30am on Tuesday, police attended a reported traffic collision on South Road near the junction of Devon Spring Road in Devonshire between an SUV and a motorcycle. It appears that the motorcycle was travelling along South Road and the SUV was exiting a parking lot in the area when the vehicles collided. Both vehicles were damaged however, the rider of the motorcycle, a 20 year old man and the driver of the SUV, a 42 year old woman were not injured. Inquiries into this incident are underway. On Thursday there were five burglaries reported throughout three parishes; Devonshire, Hamilton parish and St. George’s. Overall, a quantity of electronics and jewelry were taken. The public is reminded to make sure all windows and doors are locked before leaving their homes unattended.
Handbag Snatch - Around 12:30pm on Tuesday September 20th, police attended a reported handbag snatch on Watlington Road East in Devonshire parish. It appears that the victim, a 43 year old Devonshire woman was walking along Watlington Road East when two unknown men on a blue motorcycle rode alongside the victim, grabbing her handbag as they passed. The black bag contained a cellular phone, wallet and personal items. The suspects fled the scene on their motorcycle heading east. The victim was not injured. The rider of the motorcycle is described as a brown-skinned male in his early twenties wearing a dark coloured helmet and dark coloured clothing.
Handbag Snatch - Around 3:20pm on Monday September 19th, police attended a reported handbag snatch on South Road in Smith’s parish near the junction with Morer Estate Road. It appears that two visitors were riding a rental cycle along South Road when two unknown men believed to be on a red motorcycle took a bag from the rental cycle’s basket. The green and blue bag contained a quantity of cash, a Sony digital camera and personal items. The suspects fled the scene on their motorcycle heading east. The visitors were not injured. Inquiries into this incident are underway.
Sudden Death - The Bermuda Police Service can confirm the death of a 79 year old American visitor to the Island. Around 11:20am on Sunday September 18th, police received a report of a medical emergency. It appears that the 79 year old visitor was on a snorkeling tour in waters approximately one mile off the west end when he was discovered in an unresponsive state. CPR was commenced and the victim was rushed ashore where he was attended to by EMTs. However, he was pronounced dead at 12:55pm by an on-call physician. There are no suspicious circumstances but an autopsy is anticipated.
Fake Bank E-mail - Once again the Bermuda Police Service would like to remind members of the public to remain vigilant regarding phishing e-mails and other scams that attempt to obtain personal information or other sensitive data.
Please be aware that banks or other legitimate financial institutions will never ask you for personal account information such as your password.
Currently a fake e-mail claiming to be from the Bank of Butterfield is encouraging recipients to ‘update their contact e-mail address’ for online banking.
