Robbery - At 10:17pm on Friday December 24th a victim reported that a man wielding what appeared to be a bladed article entered a business on St. John's Road in Pembroke and made demands of money. The suspect got away with an undisclosed amount of cash; however no one was injured. Inquiries into this incident are underway.
Burglary - Around 2:25am on Friday, Police received a report of a burglary at a Mount Langton Crescent, Pembroke residence. It appears that unknown subjects gained entry into the home while the complainants were inside. The unknown culprits demanded a large amount of money and jewelry and made good their escape. Inquiries into this incident are underway.
Text Scam - Over the past several days the Bermuda Police Service Financial Crime Unit has received hundreds of calls and e-mails from Bermuda residents who have all received a promotion text message from Nokia.
The text message, allegedly from a ‘Nokia representative’, tells recipients that they have been selected as a prize winner, in the ‘Nokia end of year mobile promo’ to celebrate Nokia’s 144th anniversary.
Significant Drug Seizure - On Monday the 13th December 2010, the United States Coast Guard intercepted a 34 foot Bermuda owned and registered sloop in international waters in the Caribbean, as a result of a joint operation between RCC Bermuda, H.M. Customs Bermuda, Bermuda Police Service and other law enforcement agencies in the USA. The vessel had sailed from Bermuda on the 16th November with a crew of three Bermudians onboard at which time its stated destination was the Caribbean. At the time of its interception it appeared to have been leaving the Caribbean area.
Burglary - Around 7pm on Monday, Police received a report of a burglary at a West End Road, Sandys residence. It appears that sometime between 8am and 7pm on Monday, an unknown culprit gained entry into the home, and made a search of the dwelling. The culprit made off with a Samsung 32” flat screen television, two BlackBerry cellular phones and an I-Pod. Inquiries into this incident are underway.
Disturbance on North Shore - At 3:13am on Saturday December 18th police responded to a report of a disturbance outside of a nightclub on North Shore Road in Devonshire. Upon police arrival police observed a fight that spilled out into the road in front of the nightclub, and in the course of arresting the two men that were having the fight the police were confronted by an angry crowd who attempted to obstruct the officers. As a result of the crowd one female was arrested and the two men that were fighting were also arrested. During the affray taser and captor were deployed.
Confirmed Firearm Incident in Pembroke - At 9:20pm on Thursday 16th December, Police received a report of a car with gunshot damage. The driver reported that at about 9pm that evening the vehicle was traveling along Deepdale Road West when it was shot at near the junction with Happy Valley Road. The driver and sole occupant, a 32 year old man, was not injured. The vehicle was driven away from the scene and the incident reported a short time later to the police by a relative of the man. Officers immediately attended the area of the shooting and conducted inquiries.
Serious Injury RTC - At 3:55am on Thursday, Police and first responders attended a reported serious single vehicle road traffic collision resulting in injury on Crow Lane in Pembroke near the junction with Corkscrew Hill. It appears that a motorcycle was traveling along Crow Lane when the rider, a 24 year old Warwick woman, lost control. She was injured and taken to King Edward VII Memorial Hospital via ambulance for treatment. At last check she was in the Intensive Care Unit. Inquiries into this incident are underway. Police are appealing for any witnesses to this collision or anyone with any information to contact PC Mervin Homer on 295-0011.
Robbery - Around 10pm on Tuesday, Police received a report of a robbery at a Southampton guest property. It appears that around 9:50pm that day two unknown men attended the premises and went to the front desk area where they demanded money, with one of the men brandishing a blunt object. Both men subsequently left the property on foot with a quantity of cash. No one was injured. The suspects are described as two tall back men of medium build. An active investigation into this incident is underway.
The Bermuda Police Service continues to advise the motoring public to slow down and to drive as well as ride responsibly on the island’s roads. Additionally, we urge those traveling in cars to use their seatbelts at all times and make sure any children traveling in the vehicle are appropriately restrained. Those traveling on motorcycles should always fasten their helmets and avoid making a third lane.
