Tonight: Community Awareness Class on Gangs - Tonight’s community class is on Gangs in Bermuda: Signs, Symbols & Tips for Parents and will be held at the Hamilton Police Station, 52 Victoria Street Pembroke, in the Community and Media Relations Room on the ground floor. This free hour long workshop starts at 6pm and will end with light refreshments and a tour of the Hamilton Police Station.

Those planning to attend tonight’s free workshop are encouraged to arrive on time as the community class will start promptly and space is limited.

Confirmed Firearm Incident in Smith’s Parish - Around 12:50am on Monday, November 26th police officers responded to reports of gun shots being fired in the Club Road, Smith’s parish area.

While it was forensically confirmed that a firearm was discharged in that area, there were no reported injuries. The scene was secured and an active investigation has commenced into this confirmed firearm incident.

Detectives are appealing for witnesses or anyone that may have seen persons acting suspiciously in the Club Road, Smith’s parish area around the time of this confirmed firearm incident to contact police on 295-0011 or the independent and confidential Crime Stoppers hotline on 800-8477.

Members of the Public Assist in Search for Mr. Dereck Spenser - Around 9am Friday, November 23rd the marine search for Mr. Dereck Spenser resumed in the Ely’s Harbour, Sandys parish area. Vessels from the Bermuda Police Service Marine Unit, Bermuda Regiment Boat Troop, Department of Marine and Ports and Department of Environmental Protection Fisheries Section as well as private vessels continued efforts to locate 49 year old Mr. Spenser – who was last seen around 4:30pm Wednesday, November 21st.

In addition, divers assisted with the marine search while police officers and volunteers conducted a foot search of the surrounding area – including islands in Ely’s Harbour and along Wreck Road, where Mr. Spenser’s punt was found unoccupied Thursday morning by marine police.

Search Continues for Mr. Dereck Spenser - As the appeal continues for information regarding the whereabouts of 49 year old Dereck Spenser, members of the Bermuda Police Service Marine Unit and the Bermuda Regiment Boat Troop are currently searching the Ely’s Harbour area, where the missing man’s houseboat is located. Bermuda Maritime Operations has also issued a marine broadcast for any vessels in the area to assist in the effort to locate Mr. Spenser.

Mr. Spenser is described as brown skinned, of slim to medium build with close cut hair (grey in the front) and a grey moustache. He was last seen around 4:30pm Wednesday, November 21st.

Two Men Injured In Warwick Shooting - Around 9:15pm on Tuesday 20th November 2012, police officers responded to reports of gunshots in the Khyber Heights Lane, Warwick area. Initial inquiries revealed that two men from Pembroke parish attended the area on a motorcycle and an altercation occurred. Both Pembroke men aged 19 and 20 years sustained gunshot wounds and were taken to King Edward VII Memorial Hospital via ambulance for treatment. Their injuries are not believed to be life threatening.

The Bermuda Police Service would like to thank all members of the public that assisted the victims after they were shot and injured.

Community Awareness Classes Start Tonight - In keeping with this year’s Police Week theme, ‘Building Partnerships for a Safer Community’, a series of community meetings have been arranged to address some of the public’s key concerns while highlighting relevant policing initiatives.

The Community Class programme is designed to educate members of the public on different aspects of community policing, with the ultimate goal of enhancing the public’s confidence in the Bermuda Police Service.

Firearm Recovered - Around 8:45am on Monday, November 19th police officers attended a residence in The Glebe Road, Pembroke area and recovered a firearm. Year to date, 10 real and or imitation firearms have been recovered. No further information will be given at this time regarding this latest incident as a full investigation is now underway.

Inquiries Ongoing Into Reported Willful Damage - Around 7pm on Tuesday, November 13th police officers responded to a report of willful damage involving vehicles at City Hall parking lot in the City of Hamilton. Damage to one vehicle was detected at the time. Two suspects were arrested in connection with the incident; however both men were subsequently bailed pending further inquiries.

Investigation Into Reported Assault Completed - Detectives from the Bermuda Police Service’s Central Criminal Investigation Unit conducted a full investigation into the alleged assault of a rugby player, deemed to have occurred on Saturday 10th November 2012, during the USA vs. South Africa World Rugby Classic match.

A file was submitted to the Department of Public Prosecutions and after review, prosecutors have determined that there is insufficient evidence to proceed with a prosecution. Therefore, the Bermuda Police Service inquiry into this matter has now been completed.

Damage Only Collision on Parsons Lane - Around 3pm on Tuesday, November 13th police attended a reported two vehicle damage only collision in the Parsons Lane, Orange Valley Road Devonshire area. It appears that a car and a jeep were being driven along Parsons Lane when they collided, with one of the vehicles subsequently colliding with a wall. As a result both vehicles were damaged; however there were no reported injuries.
