RFC #77 Passing Out Parade

The Passing Out Parade for Bermuda Police Service Recruit Foundation Course #77 took place at 6:00pm on Thursday, August 11th 2016 at Police Headquarters, Prospect, Devonshire. The event was well attended by family, friends and well-wishers. Also in attendance at the ceremony were several dignitaries including:

Updated - Police Still Looking To Locate Visitor Omar Davy

The Bermuda Service is still interested in locating 35-year-old visitor Omar Davy, who is wanted in connection with an active police investigation. The female visitor 23-year-old Alicia Cargill has been in contact with police and dealt with. Anyone who may have information on the whereabouts of Omar Davy is asked to call Sgt. Jerome Astwood on 247-1010 or ADI Bhagwan on 247-1031.

            

Travis Lowe Identified As Ninth Road Fatality of 2016

The Bermuda Police Service can now confirm the death of 23 year old Travis Lowe who died as a result of a two vehicle road traffic collision that took place on Tuesday July 26th at 3:25pm at the junction of Horseshoe Bay Road and Palm Valley in Southampton.

Death was certified at 10:22pm on Tuesday (August 2nd) and a Family Liaison Officer has been assigned to the family to help them cope in these trying and difficult times.

Death of Norwegian Breakaway Crewman

At 11:59am today first responders attended King’s Wharf in Dockyard to an incident onboard the cruise ship Norwegian Breakaway.

During conduct of the ship’s weekly safety and training drills, a lifeboat broke from its tethering and fell into the water.

Four male crew members were onboard the lifeboat and were injured during the fall.

Appeal for Information Regarding Overturned Driving School Vehicle

Around 9:30pm on Monday, July 11th a driving school vehicle was found overturned at the junction of Prospect Road and CedarBridge Lane in Devonshire.

At this time it is unclear how the car ended up on its roof.

Police are appealing for any witnesses or persons with information regarding this incident to call the main police telephone number on 295-0011.

Investigation Continues: Gunshots in Rambling Lane, Pembroke Area

Detectives continue to appeal for witnesses or anyone with information regarding the non-injury firearm incident that occurred around 10:55pm Monday, July 11th in the Rambling Lane, Fentons Drive Pembroke area. 

The investigative team is particularly interested in speaking to persons that may have seen two males in all black clothing in the area at that time.

Both suspects are believed to have arrived on foot and left on foot.

Death of 38 Year Old Canadian Visitor Ashwin Bhandarkar

The Bermuda Police Service can now confirm the death of 38 year old Canadian visitor Ashwin Bhandarkar and extends condolences to his family.

It appears that around 6:30pm Saturday, July 9th Mr. Bhandarkar was swimming in the pool at Dawkins Manor in Paget when he ran into difficulty.

Members of the public pulled him out of the pool and initially performed CPR until EMTs arrived on scene to continue with life-saving efforts.

Man Arrested After Reported Shoplifting Incident at Brown & Co.

At around 11:05am police received a report of an incident that took place at Brown and Co. in the City of Hamilton. Upon police arrival it was ascertained that a male was seen to remove an item from the shelf and conceal it on his person. The suspect was then followed inside the store by a security guard. Once the suspect noticed he was being followed, he began to quickly exit out of the store, injuring his hand on the glass door. A 21 year old male later attended the hospital for treatment of a hand injury and was subsequently arrested on suspicion of shoplifting. Inquiries into this incident continue.

Two Male Shooting Victims in Stable Condition

The two men who were involved in the shooting that took place last night at Gombey’s in St. David’s are both in stable condition in the hospital. Police are interested in speaking with anyone who may have any information that may assist police in this investigation to please make contact with Sergeant Dean Martin on 295-0011 or the confidential Crime Stoppers hotline on 800-8477.

Man In Custody After Altercation

Around 12:05pm today [1-Jul] Police responded to a report of an incident which took place on Church Street in the City of Hamilton, just outside of Digicel. It appears that two males were involved in an altercation, one brandishing a baseball bat and the other a machete.

One of the males has been arrested and is in police custody. The other man is still outstanding. An investigation into this matter is underway. Anyone with information on this incident should call police on 295-0011.
