Witness Appeal: Serious Injury RTC - Police are continuing to appeal for witnesses to a serious three vehicle road traffic collision that occurred around 5:45pm Monday, March 14th 2011 at the junction of North Shore Road and Stonehaven Road in Hamilton parish. The auxiliary cycle rider, a 17 year old young man from St. George’s, sustained serious head injuries and was rushed to King Edward VII Memorial Hospital via ambulance where he was treated in the Intensive Care Unit before being flown overseas for further medical care.

Weekend Police Activity - Over the weekend there were 3 people arrested on suspicion of impaired driving. Police officers also arrested 28 people for outstanding warrants and conducted 23 liquor license checks at various liquor licensed premises throughout the island.

Injury RTC in Hamilton Parish - Around 8:30am on Friday, Police responded to a reported road traffic collision resulting in injury at the junction of North Shore Road and Fractious Street in Hamilton parish, apparently involving a motorcycle and a car. Details about how the collision occurred are unclear at this time; however the male motorcyclist was injured and taken to King Edward VII Memorial Hospital via ambulance for treatment. The victim’s injuries are not believed to be life threatening. Inquiries into this incident are underway.

Update: Injury RTC in Devonshire - Around 3:55pm on Wednesday, Police responded to a reported road traffic collision resulting in injury at the junction of North Shore Road and Loyal Hill Road in Devonshire. It appears that two auxiliary cycles and a car collided in the area. As a result the two auxiliary cycle riders, a 17 year old young man from Hamilton parish and a 16 year old young man from Hamilton parish, were injured. They were both taken to King Edward VII Memorial Hospital via ambulance for treatment.

Impaired Driving - Around 5:55pm on Tuesday, Police on mobile patrol responded to a report of an impaired driver on North Shore Road in Smith’s parish. It appears that a jeep was being driven erratically along North Shore Road near the junction with Jennings Road when it was caused to stop by a member of the public who called Police. A second member of the public also assisted at the scene prior to Police arrival. As officers arrived they observed the driver, a 52 year old Pembroke woman, displayed signs of being intoxicated. She was subsequently arrested on suspicion of impaired driving and detained before being bailed. A court appearance is anticipated in the near future.

Road Safety Advisory - The Bermuda Police Service continues to advise the motoring public to slow down and to drive as well as ride responsibly on the island’s roads. Additionally, we urge those traveling in cars to use their seatbelts at all times and make sure any children traveling in the vehicle are appropriately restrained. Those traveling on motorcycles should always fasten their helmets and avoid making a third lane.

Confirmed Firearm Incident in Pembroke - Around 1:25am on Monday, March 7th 2011 Police responded to a report of gunshots in the area of St. Monica’s Road and The Glebe Road in Pembroke. Forensic evidence collected from the scene confirmed at least one firearm had been discharged; there were no reported injuries at the scene and subsequent inquiries at the hospital verified that no one had attended with related injuries. An active investigation into this incident is underway.

Robbery - Around 11pm on Thursday, Police responded to a reported robbery at a St. George’s business. It appears that an unknown man entered the premises brandishing what appeared to be a firearm and demanded money. After taking a quantity of cash the thief fled the scene. An individual working in the store at the time was not injured. The suspect is described as a light skinned man approximately 6’ tall; wearing dark coloured long jeans, a dark coloured long sleeved hooded top, dark coloured sneakers and dark coloured sunglasses. Inquiries into this incident are ongoing.

Three Men Arrested For Robbery After Swift Action By Police - At 12 noon on Wednesday, March 2nd 2011 Police received a report of a robbery. It appears that the victim, a 20 year old Sandys parish man, was accosted by five young men between 6pm and 7pm on Monday, February 28th 2011 in the area of Camp Hill and the Railway Trail in Southampton. The assailants took a quantity of cash and a motorcycle helmet from the Sandys parish man before fleeing the scene. The victim and the assailants apparently know each other.

Injury RTC in Sandys Parish - Around 10:45pm on Monday, Police responded to a reported road traffic collision resulting in injury at the junction of Mangrove Bay Road and Loyalty Estate in Sandys parish involving a van and a pedal cycle. It appears that the van was traveling along Mangrove Bay Road and the pedal cycle was traveling along Loyalty Estate when they collided at the junction. The pedal cyclist, a 34 year old Hamilton parish man, sustained head/facial injuries; however his injuries are not believed to be life threatening. The driver of the van, a 36 year old Southampton man, was not injured. Both the van and the pedal cycle were damaged.
