Witness Appeal - Fatal RTC - The Bermuda Police Service is continuing to appeal for witnesses to the fatal road traffic collision that claimed the life of 25 year old Christopher Alves which occurred around 10pm Thursday on Knapton Hill in Smith’s parish near the junction with Spanish Heights Road. Any witnesses or anyone with any information about the collision is encouraged to contact PC Ian Taitt at the Roads Policing Unit on 299-4390, 515-9999 or the main Police number 295-0011.

Fatal RTC - The Bermuda Police Service can now confirm the death of 25 year old Christopher Alves of Pembroke. Around 10pm on Thursday, Police attended a reported serious road traffic collision on Knapton Hill in Smith’s parish near the junction with Spanish Heights Road. It appears that a motorcycle ridden by Mr. Alves was traveling west on Knapton Hill when it was in collision with a parked truck. Mr. Alves sustained serious head injuries and was treated at the scene by EMTs before being rushed to KEMH via ambulance. However, he succumbed to his injuries a short time later and was pronounced dead by an on call physician at 10:20pm.

Disturbance - Around 9:40pm on Wednesday, Police attended a reported disturbance at Albouy’s Point in the City of Hamilton. It appears that a few young men were involved in a physical altercation at that location; however on arrival there was no disturbance taking place. Officers spoke with the victim, a 19 year old Warwick man, who stated that he was assaulted about the body by two men. The suspects, a 23 year old Pembroke man and a 21 year old Devonshire man, were subsequently located on Front Street and arrested in connection with the incident. Inquiries are underway.

Injury RTC - Around 11:45am on Tuesday, Police attended a reported road traffic collision resulting in injury on Middle Road in Sandy’s parish near the Somerset Bridge Post Office. It appears that a car and a van were parked next to each other at the rear of the post office. As the driver of the car, a 70 year old Sandy’s parish woman, drove away from the parking area she collided with the front of the parked van before losing control and colliding with a wall opposite the entrance to the post office. The Sandy’s parish woman sustained facial injuries and was taken to KEMH via ambulance for treatment.

The Bermuda Police Service continues to advise the motoring public to slow down and to drive as well as ride responsibly on the island’s roads. Additionally, we urge those traveling in cars to use their seatbelts at all times and make sure any children traveling in the vehicle are appropriately restrained. Those traveling on motorcycles should always fasten their helmets and avoid making a third lane.

Fatal RTC - The Bermuda Police Service can now confirm the death of 22 year old Delmonte Browne of Paget. Mr. Browne was riding a motorcycle which was involved in a three vehicle collision on Middle Road in Paget near Eve’s Cycles around 2:30pm Saturday. He was seriously injured and rushed to KEMH via ambulance where he was subsequently pronounced dead at 4:39pm by an on call physician. The Bermuda Police Service extends our sincere condolences to the family & friends of the deceased. Inquiries into this incident are ongoing. Police are appealing for any witnesses to this collision to contact the Roads Policing Unit on 295-0011.

May 30 - Weekend Report

Fatal RTC - Around 2:30pm on Saturday, Police received a report of a serious road traffic collision on Middle Road in Paget near Eve's Cycles involving a car and a motorcycle. Details about how the collision occured are unclear; however, the male motorcyclist was seriously injured and rushed to KEMH via ambulance, where he subsequently succumbed to his injuries. Inquiries are underway. No further information will be released until the deceased's next of kin have been notified.

This marks the 7th road traffic fatality for 2009.

Robbery - Around 12:45am today, Police received a report of a robbery on Pitts Bay Road in Pembroke. It appears that the victim, a 31 year old Warwick man, was walking along Pitts Bay Road when he was approached by three unknown men who demanded money. The Warwick man pulled out his wallet and one of the men removed a quantity of cash from it. All three suspects then made good their escape on foot towards the Fairmont Hamilton Princess hotel. The victim was not injured. Police arrived on the scene a short time later and a search of the immediate area resulted in the arrest of an 18 year old Warwick man in connection with this matter.

Burglary - Around 7:20am on Thursday, Police received a report of a burglary at a Spice Hill Road, Warwick residence. The complainant stated that sometime between 11:30am and 4:30pm on Wednesday, an unknown culprit gained entry into her home while it was unoccupied. The culprit stole a men’s ‘Omega’ watch, a BlackBerry ‘Storm’ cellular phone and a quantity of cash. Inquiries into this incident are underway.
