Attempted Robbery - Around 5:20am today, Police received a report of an attempted robbery at Grotto Bay Beach hotel in Hamilton parish. It appears that an unknown man brandishing a bladed article attempted to enter an office on the premises but was prevented from doing so by an employee who was working in the office at the time. The offender then made good his escape empty handed after being confronted by the hotel’s security officer. No one was injured. The suspect is described as a black male, approximately 5’11” - 6’2” tall of slim build, wearing a white hooded jacket with a green pattern, dark coloured pants, white sneakers and dark sunglasses.
The Bermuda Police Service continues to advise the motoring public to slow down and to drive as well as ride responsibly on the island’s roads. Additionally, we urge those traveling in cars to use their seatbelts at all times and make sure any children traveling in the vehicle are appropriately restrained. Those traveling on motorcycles should always fasten their helmets and avoid making a third lane.

Fatal RTC - The Bermuda Police Service can now confirm the death of 23 year old Dereiko Simons of Sandys parish. The Bermuda Police Service extends sincere condolences to the family & friends of Mr. Simons, who was involved in a collision that occurred around 11:40pm Saturday on Somerset Road in Sandys parish near the junction with Morgan Hill. It appears that Mr. Simons was riding a motorcycle traveling west on Somerset Road when he collided with a car traveling in the opposite direction Mr. Simons sustained multiple injuries including serious internal injuries, a head injury and two broken legs.
Injury RTC - Around 8:45pm on Thursday, Police attended a reported road traffic collision resulting in injury on Middle Road in Sandys parish near the junction with White Hill Lane involving an auxiliary cycle and a car. It appears that the car was traveling north on Middle Road and the auxiliary cycle was traveling in the opposite direction when the vehicles collided. The rider of the auxiliary cycle, a 40 year old Warwick man, sustained a possible concussion. He was taken to KEMH via ambulance for treatment. The driver of the car, a 64 year old Smith’s parish woman, was not injured. Both vehicles received damage to multiple areas.
Damage Only RTC - Around 8:10pm on Wednesday, Police attended a reported single vehicle damage only road traffic collision on Happy Valley Road in Pembroke. It appears that a car was traveling east on Happy Valley Road when the driver, a 56 year old Pembroke man, lost control and collided with the fence of Pitt & Company. The Pembroke man was not injured; however the car received extensive front end damage. The fence was also damaged.
Damage Only RTC - At 5:50pm on Tuesday, Police attended a reported damage only road traffic collision at the junction of South Road and Zuill’s Park Road in Smith’s parish involving two cars. It appears that a sinkhole developed in the eastbound lane of South Road. As a result the two cars, both traveling east on South Road at the time, received minor damage. There were no reported injuries. Works & Engineering personnel erected temporary traffic lights in the area to assist with traffic flow as well as lights and warning cones around the sinkhole itself.

Fatal Shooting in Hamilton parish - The Bermuda Police Service will be holding a press conference at 12 noon today at the scene of the latest fatal shooting, Hamilton Parish Workman’s Club. All media are encouraged to attend.

Firearm Incident in Sandys - Around 12:20am today, Police received a report of gunshots in the Cooks Hill Road, Sandys parish area. A resident of the area stated that she saw an unknown man standing in the road. The suspect, described as approximately 6’ tall and wearing dark coloured clothing, discharged a firearm before leaving the area on foot. No one was injured. Officers attended the scene a short time later and immediately commenced an investigation into the incident.
Injury RTC - At 3:45am today, Police attended a reported road traffic collision resulting in injury on South Road in Paget near Bermuda College involving a car and a motorcycle. It appears that the motorcycle was traveling west on South Road and the car was traveling in the opposite direction when the vehicles collided. The rider of the motorcycle, a 24 year old Hamilton parish man, reportedly sustained a broken ankle and a dislocated hip. He was taken to KEMH via ambulance for treatment. The driver of the car, a 31 year old Hamilton parish man, was not injured. The motorcycle was extensively damaged while the car received extensive front end damage.
