ECAT Provides Pedal Cycle Lights to St. George’s Youth Group

At 7:30pm on Friday, November 20th three officers from the Bermuda Police Service Eastern Community Action Team (ECAT) met with young people at the St. George’s Community Centre to provide them with pedal cycle lights.

PC Jason Trott explained how the idea came about to provide the lights. “One evening while out on patrol I saw several youngsters riding their pedal cycles in the area without any lights. It seemed to be a simple solution – if we could find a way to provide them with lights for their pedal cycles, they would be much easier for other vehicles to see and therefore safer on the road at night.”

So working in conjunction with Mr. Charlie Marshall and the St. George’s Community Centre, Sergeant Andrew Exell, Constable Jason Trott and Constable Simon Joseph helped members of the St. George’s youth group to put front and rear lights on their pedal cycles.

The officers also provided U-Mark pens so the youngsters could mark their cycles, mobile phones or other personal items with their initials and date of birth. In the event the invisibly marked items are lost or stolen and then recovered by Police, their owner’s information would be identifiable under a special ultra-violet light.

This is just one example of the Bermuda Police Service working in partnership with a community based organization to produce a positive outcome for all involved.

All incidents are under investigation. Police are appealing to members of the public who have witnessed these incidents or may have information pertaining to them to contact their respective Police Station, Police Headquarters at 295-0011 or the confidential Crimestoppers Hotline on 1 (800) 623-8477.
